The IBMT keeps alive the memory and spirit of the 2,500 men and women from Britain and Ireland who volunteered to fight fascism and defend democracy during the Spanish Civil War of 1936-39. We remember too all those who supported their cause at home.
We bring together families, friends and admirers of the International Brigades, along with labour movement activists, historians and others who share an interest in their extraordinary story.
The IBMT organises and promotes educational, cultural and commemorative activities to preserve the legacy of anti-fascism and international solidarity left by the International Brigades. We also help ensure that the more than 100 memorials in the British Isles to the volunteers – 526 of whom were killed in Spain – are maintained in good order.
The IBMT is a registered charity and relies on membership subscriptions and donations.
